#Macross’ Kazutaka Miyatake Hospitalized After House Fire

Studio Nue’s Kazutaka Miyatake, who co-founded the studio, produced the mechanical designs for The Super Dimension Fortress Macross and counted contributions to shows like Mai-HiME, RaXephon, Gundam SEED, and other Macross installments among his other works, is currently hospitalized following a house fire.

Miyatake’s co-founder Haruka Takachiho shared a TBS news report of the fire on Twitter, saying that the persons mentioned in the article were Miyatake and his wife. The report, which did not name Miyatake, said that a fire had broken out in a wooden house in Kanagawa Prefecture’s Yokosuka City on May 22 in the afternoon.

The 71-year-old Miyatake escaped but was hospitalized due to inhaling smoke from the fire. Takachiho said that Miyatake was not in a serious condition.

Miyatake’s 60-year-old wife, Tomoko Watanabe, was also brought to the hospital after being rescued from the fire, but passed away afterwards.

The TBS report noted that the fire was particularly fierce in the kitchen vicinity and took around two hours to extinguish. The police are still investigating the cause of the fire.
