#’Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ trailer drops

Audiences got their first glimpse of footage from Chadwick Boseman’s final film on Monday.

The “Black Panther” star, who died in August at 43, stars in Netflix’s upcoming “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” alongside Oscar-nominee Viola Davis.

In the film, based on August Wilson’s 1982 Broadway play, Boseman plays Levee, the horn player for blues legend Ma Rainey (Davis). Ma may be the star attraction, but Levee has big dreams of having a band of his own.

“I’m gonna get me a band and make me some records,” Boseman says in the trailer. “I know how to play real music. Not this jugband s–t.”

George C. Wolfe directs the Chicago-set drama.

“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” is one of several Oscars hopefuls Netflix is releasing this year. It joins Aaron Sorkin’s “Trial of the Chicago 7,” Spike Lee’s “Da 5 Bloods,” David Fincher’s “Mank” and Ron Howard’s “Hillbilly Elegy” in the race to the Academy Awards.

“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” hits select theaters in November and will stream on Netflix on Dec. 18.
