Voice actress Miu Kotosaka (second from left in the image below), who was cast as Sylvie Cariello in the upcoming Renmei Kuugun Goukou Majou Ongakutai Luminous Witches (Allied Air Force Magical Idols Luminous Witches) anime, is retiring due to health concerns. The Luminous Witches’s website announced that the role of Sylvie will be recast.

The Production A voice agency’s website posted that Kotosaka’s doctor deemed her as requiring medical treatment over her poor health. She will hence retire from voice-acting in order to focus on her treatment. Kotosaka will also graduate from the Luminous Witches idol unit.

As Anime News Network reports, Production A had previously announced that Kotosaka’s fellow Luminous Witches member Kyō Tachibana was taking a hiatus over health reasons. However, she is still credited with the role as Joanna Elizabeth Stafford for the anime.

Luminous Witches‘s other cast members include Mai Narumi as Virginia Robertson, Minako Hosokawa as Inori Shibuya, Ami Aimoto as Lyudmila Andreyevna Ruslanova, Ryō Mamiya as Aila Päivikki Linnamaa, Tsuzuki Sayaka as Éléonore Giovanna Gassion, Kana Konaka as Maria Magdalene Dietrich, and Misaki Yūki as Manaia Matawhaura Hato.

Luminous Witches, which was recently delayed from 2021 to 2022, is set in the same universe as Strike Witches. The story follows a group of Witches who do not fight, but instead use song and music to “protect everyone’s smiles.” The main character is the mysterious Virginia “Genie” Robertson, who possesses the traits of a Night Witch.

The staff includes Shōji Saeki (Assault Lily BOUQUET) as director, Kana Shundō (Princess Connect! Re: Dive, Assault Lily BOUQUET imageboarder) as assistant director, Fumikane Shimada (Strike Witches) as the original character designer, and Kazuya Shiotsuki (Assault Lily BOUQUET sub-character designer and co-animation director) as the character designer.

Other staff include Mina Ōtaka (Sword Art Online Alicization – War of Underworld animation director) as the familiar designer, Hibino Jin (Assault Lily BOUQUET, Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story Season 2 -The Eve of Awakening-) as the color designer, Rei Egami (Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story Season 2 -The Eve of Awakening-) as the photography director, and Gō Wakabayashi (So I’m a Spider, So What?) as the music producer. SHAFT is the animation production company, while KADOKAWA is the music production company.
