“Giuliani’s meeting with Jan. 6 panel nixed after requests were denied”

Rudy Giuliani’s planned Friday meeting with the House select committee probing the Capitol riot was canceled after his requests to record the interview were denied.

But despite the cancellation, talks between Giuliani, 77, and Congressional investigators would continue, his lawyer Robert Costello told CNN Thursday.

After months of negotiations, ex-President Donald Trump’s former personal attorney was set to appear before the Jan. 6 panel virtually, but canceled the interview after lawmakers refused to let him record audio and video of it, according to the report.

Trump had tasked Giuliani with finding evidence to support his false claims of election fraud in 2020, and the former New York City mayor filed dozens of lawsuits challenging President Joe Biden’s electoral victory.

On the morning of the riots, Giuliani called for Trump supporters to “have trial by combat” to prevent Congress from certifying Biden’s victory.

“I’m willing to stake my reputation, the President is willing to stake his reputation, on the fact that we’re going to find criminality there,” he said during a rally in front of the White House.

After being subpoenaed, the Republican had told the panel he was willing to testify about his claims of election fraud, but did not intend to waive executive or attorney-client privilege, CNN reported.

Giuliani “actively promoted claims of election fraud on behalf of the former President and sought to convince state legislators to take steps to overturn the election results,” the House committee subpoena alleged.

The mostly Democratic committee had said it expected Giuliani to “cooperate fully.”

Hundreds of witnesses had already met with the panel, including more than a dozen members of Trump’s inner circle, officials said.

The former federal prosecutor is also under investigation by his old office and faces a $1.3 billion dollar lawsuit over his election fraud claims.
