We have a few questions after watching the Love, Victor season finale

On June 19, Hulu released Love, Victor, the spinoff series based on the 2018 film Love, Simon, which was based on the novel Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. Love, Simon starred Nick Robinson as Simon Spier, a gay and closeted teenager who begins an email correspondence with an anonymous gay classmate.

After Simon’s emails are discovered by Martin Addison, Simon is blackmailed into helping him win the affection of Simon’s best friend, Abby.

The original novel has inspired three sequels with a fourth slated for release on June 20. However, Love, Victor is a completely original edition to the Simonverse. In Love, Victor, Michael Cimino, stars as Victor Salazar, a high schooler whose family moves to the town of Creekwood, where Love, Simon took place.

Like Simon, Victor is a gay and closeted teenager, although, throughout most of the season, Victor is struggling to figure out his sexuality.

After hearing Simon’s story on a less than stellar first day at Creekwood High School, Victor sends him a message to vent his frustration that Simon was able to come out to accepting parents.

When Simon replies, the two begin an email correspondence as Simon helps Victor to navigate high school and his sexuality. Along the way, we follow Victor, his friends, and his family as they navigate day-to-day challenges, some of which may affect their futures.

With that being said, let’s address five questions that we have about Victor and his loved ones going into Love, Victor Season 2.

1. How will Victor’s parents react to Victor coming out in Love, Victor Season 2?

By far, the biggest worry that Victor had this season as he came to terms with his sexuality was how the news would affect his relationship with his parents. Early on, Victor implied that his parents’ religious beliefs might make it harder for them to accept his sexuality.

His worry seemed confirmed, when, after defending Benji’s and Derek’s relationship to his grandfather, Victor’s father Armando commended him for his bravery, but expressed his hope that Victor’s brother Adrian wouldn’t grow up to be gay.

In the season finale, after getting caught kissing Benji by Mia, being confronted about his sexuality by his sister Pilar, and finding out that his parents are separating, all in one night, Simon decided to come out.

Unfortunately, we only saw the conversation from Victor’s perspective, and the episode ended before Victor’s parents could respond. Luckily, the show’s creators have confirmed that we’ll see the rest of that conversation play out in Love, Victor Season 2.

Will Victor’s parents be able to handle the news, or will it be a point of contention? Will Victor be able to lean on Pilar for support? How will they handle Victor’s new relationship with Benji?

2. Will Victor’s parents end up getting a divorce?

In Episode 4, it was revealed that Victor’s mother Isabel had an affair with Armando’s old boss, Roger. After Armando punched Roger in retaliation, he was fired, prompting the Salazar’s move to  Creekwood.

Throughout the season, the repercussions of Isabel’s affair on their marriage became evident as Armando struggled to trust her. Despite attempts to get their marriage back on track, Isabel and Armando considered the idea that maybe they’d gotten married too young and ultimately decided that it was best to separate. Will this be a permanent separation?

The news of Isabel’s affair also greatly affected Victor and Pilar. After learning the truth, Victor and especially, Pilar, had a hard time dealing with the news. Although it seemed Isabel had begun to mend fences with Pilar, will the separation and a possible divorce put them back at square one?

3. Will Felix and Lake be able to make it work?

Felix and Lake were Creekwood High School’s most unlikely pair this season. After fawning over Lake for years, Felix finally got what he wanted when the two hooked up for the first time.

Unfortunately, Lake made it clear to Felix that their fling was to remain a secret. However, after dating in secret for weeks, due to Lake’s worry about what people would think, Felix dumped her. In an attempt to make Felix jealous, Lake asked popular jock Kieran to the Spring Fling dance after nerdy girl Wendy asked Felix. However, when it seemed as though Felix was having more fun with Wendy, Lake herself became jealous.

As a result, while accepting the award for Spring Fling queen on behalf of Mia, she professed her love for Felix and invited him onstage for the ceremonial dance. This was a big step for Lake, who, for most of the season, came off as ditzy and superficial. Of course, we’d learn, during the second half of Season 1, that this was due in part to the influence of her equally self-obsessed mother Georgina Cunningham, a local newscaster.

After learning that Felix’s mother is a hoarder, it would seem that Lake’s beliefs on what matters most in life have shifted. However, is this an attitude that she’ll be able to keep up in Love, Victor Season 2, or will her self-consciousness get the best of her and stand in the way of her relationship with Felix?

4. What does the future hold for Mia and Andrew?

After creating a mock Kickstarter campaign after Victor expressed uncertainty that he’d be able to conjure up $500 to join the Creekwood High School basketball team, Victor and Andrew’s rivalry was cemented. Tensions rose between the men when Victor started dating Mia, Andrew’s crush, and childhood friend. Although Andrew kissed Mia at her father’s fundraiser, where Victor was noticeably absent, Mia rebuked him, staying loyal to Victor despite being worried that he was growing distant.

Still, when Andrew had the ammunition he needed to break up Victor and Mia, after learning at the dance that Victor kissed Benji, he told Victor that he wouldn’t say anything. Unfortunately, Mia would catch Victor kissing Benji a while later and would go to seek Andrew for comfort. As Mia and Andrew stood outside her house, later that night, Mia kissed him.

However, upon entering her house, she broke down in tears in front of her father’s fiancee. Does this kiss open the door for a future romance in Love, Victor Season 2, or will Mia need time to heal? Will Victor be able to salvage a friendship with her?

5. How will Victor navigate his relationship with Benji?

From the moment he laid eyes on him, Victor was smitten with Benji. As coworkers, the two bonded fast with Victor offering Benji relationship advice and Benji teaching him the ins-and-outs of being a barista. Although Benji’s feelings for Victor were hinted at in Episode 3 when Benji performed Victor’s favorite song, Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe”, at the Battle of the Bands, Benji was still committed to his boyfriend, Derek.

So when Victor kissed Benji on their road trip in Willacoochee, Benji quickly transferred to a different store and told Victor to stay away from him. However, when Pilar told Derek what happened, Benji and Derek ultimately broke up, and Benji confessed his feelings to Victor.

Will this mean the start of something new for Victor and Benji? Will Victor’s parents get in the way of their relationship? How will Victor navigate his first gay relationship?
