Old habits die hard and apparently Logic just can’t quit Hip Hop. The previously “retired” rapper returned with a surprise single called “Tired In Malibu” on Thursday (April 8), officially bringing his retirement to an end.

The single art features a photo of himself with his young son as they lay back on an outdoor couch. Toward the end of the track, Logic confirms his rap resurrection with the line, “Retired for a minute/But I guess I’m back man,” a strong indication there’s more on the horizon.

But did Logic ever really retire? Last September, the Def Jam Recordings artist dropped TwitchTape Vol. 1, a beat-tape that featured samples including Roy Ayres’ ‘Everybody Loves The Sunshine’ and ‘Fo’TheKids’ by Ahwlee.

Then in January, he shared an Instagram post announcing a new project by Doc D (or Doctor Destruction), which was believed to be Logic’s alter ego.

Boasting MF DOOM-style skits and audio bytes from Pulp Fiction, the 17-track album featured Ghostface Killah, Del The Funky Homosapien, Buddy, TDE’s Punch, Tony Tone, LIKE and J Mars, among others.

“I met this cat @docdmusic 3 years ago in Chicago,” he claimed on January 14. “Now he claims to be from the year 2097 so he must have borrowed doc brown’s Delorean lol. However on that day he handed me a flash drive with music like many before him.

“But this was special, and so true to the roots of Hip Hop I had him keep sending more over the years. And once I’d heard enough I decided to sign him. Now I don’t know how he convinced me to executive produce his entire album but I’m glad I did.”
