Los Angeles, CA – Live Nation has claimed “no liability” in the murder of Drakeo The Ruler after the West Coast rapper was stabbed to death backstage at the Once Upon a Time in L.A. last year at the age of 28.

The 28-year-old rapper was attacked on the Saturday night (December 18) of the festival, where he and the likes of Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent and Ice Cube were scheduled to play. His death was confirmed by his publicist the following day (December 19).

Drakeo’s brother, mother and son have all filed lawsuits on the late rapper’s behalf against Live Nation, which hosted the L.A. festival.

In a filing made public earlier this week that was viewed by Rolling Stone, Live Nation is legally fighting back by claiming it has “no liability” in the “Talk to Me” rapper’s death on its festival’s premises.

Live Nation believes it can’t be held responsible for the “violent mob” of about 50 to 100 with weapons who killed Drakeo just minutes prior to him taking the stage. The company argued it has “no duty” to prevent “third party” criminal activity because there hasn’t been prior violent incidents like this at its previous festivals.

Live Nation added that Drakeo The Ruler and his team didn’t ask the festival for “additional security” or let festival security know he might be at risk.

The lawsuits from the rapper’s relatives name a possible motive for Drakeo’s murder, claiming it could have been revenge for the death of a Bloods gang member, even though he had no affiliation with the gang or this individual’s death.

“It had been widely known to the public via social media and otherwise that certain members of the Bloods gang had rejected the acquittal and sought to exact ‘street justice’ against [Drakeo The Ruler],” Drakeo’s mother’s [Darrylene Corniel], lawsuit states.

Police have so far come up with no leads and no arrests have been made in relation to the case since the Stinc Team leader’s murder.
