News of a live-action Gundam movie was announced back in 2018. For a time,  Kong: Skull Island‘s Jordan Vogt-Roberts attached to the project as director and producer while Y: The Last Man author Brian K. Vaughan was to write the script. Netflix was supposed to stream the movie.

Last November, Deadline reported Mickle’s involvement and said that production was planned to begin in early 2025.

The Gundam franchise’s first entry was Mobile Suit Gundam, which first began airing in 1979. The Yoshiyuki Tomino creation introduced the main Universal Century timeline and more grounded mecha far than Super Robot anime

Since then, there have been many Gundam series, movies, and OVAs. A large number take place in the same universe as the original, while shows like Mobile Suit Gundam Wing and Mobile Suit Gundam Seed sport their own universes.
