The Rays got the best of the Yankees in St. Petersburg over the weekend, taking three out of four games. Chris Shearn and four-time World Series champion Jeff Nelson get into it on the newest episode of the “Pinstripe Pod.”

They open the show talking about the good and the bad to take from the series against the Rays. The good was James Paxton striking out 11 batters and looking good up until the seventh inning. The bad was yet another Giancarlo Stanton injury sending him to the IL, where he has spent much of his time with the Yankees. Who will replace Stanton? Should Mike Ford be playing every day? They also talk about how strong the Rays’ pitching looks and Yankees-Rays truly becoming a rivalry after the chirping between the two teams over the weekend.

NY Post baseball columnist and good friend of the program Ken Davidoff then drops by with Shearnie and Nellie. Davidoff talks about some of that chirping and the Rays being able to give the Yankees a run for their money. The Rays trot out arm after arm from that bullpen, making them a dangerous team, especially in the short season. They also talk Stanton’s constant injuries and what the timeline could look for his latest hamstring injury. Is Clint Frazier the guy to get called up and get playing time now? Davidoff gets into the trade deadline and why it is so different this year outside of it being later than normal. He also dives into his column on why he thinks all baseball games should be seven innings, which Nellie very much disagrees with.

Former Yankee and the first designated hitter in baseball history Ron Blomberg then joins the show. Blomberg talks about how special it was being the first DH back in 1973, how it all happened and why he loves the universal DH now and why it should be a part of baseball forever. He also gets into his bat being in the Hall of Fame, limited bats back in the 1970s and why he wanted to keep it. Him and Nellie then talk about how special Old-Timers’ Day was and how all players should be watching the old guys play and be a sponge to the Yankee greats.
