#Listen to Episode 15 of ‘Amazin’ But True’: Cespedes Goes AWOL, Opts Out

The Mets can never find themselves out of the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Sunday was a wild ending to a rough weekend for the Mets. Yoenis Cespedes went AWOL, Brodie Van Wagenen put out a statement that they don’t know where he is and then Cespedes’ agent informs them that he is opting out of the 2020 season. Oh yeah, and the Mets ended up losing their fifth straight game to fall to 3-7.

To go through it all, it’s an emergency edition of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with me and Nelson Figueroa. To open the show, Figgie hands me the mic to go off on a passionate rant on Cespedes’ decision, his run with the Mets being a train wreck and the franchise continuing to be a debacle on and off the field.

Figgie responds to my rant talking about the bad decision from Cespedes to leave without telling people. He also points to the poor play on the field, from the defense to the bullpen to leaving guys on base, along with the struggles from Pete Alonso and some bad decisions from Luis Rojas. The Mets have left an army on the basepaths and are not pushing runs across, and it’s been a big reason for their five-game losing streak as they sit in last place in the NL East. We look at the pain Mets fans go through and why it is far beyond what other teams have dealt with. We look back at the Cespedes era, the contract being a mistake, the horrid moves Van Wagenen has made as GM and what’s ahead for this team.
