Among the many amazing outfits and looks at this year’s Met Gala, one tiny piece of embroidery caused an outsized splash and got the internet asking if BLACKPINK’s LISA had an image of Rosa Parks stitched into her underwear. Now, courtesy of artist Henry Taylor, we have the answer and it’s a no, the White Lotus star was not sporting an image of a civil rights icon on her crotch.

LISA, who has faced previous accusations of racism, collaborated with Pharrell on a Louis Vuitton look that incorporated elements of an artwork by Taylor into its lace material. The original artwork is made up of “portraits of figures who have been a part of the artist’s life,” an LV spokesperson told the New York Times.

Technically, that could still be a figure as important as Rosa Parks. A rep for Taylor, however, made it explicit that it wasn’t. “The figure featured in Lisa’s Louis Vuitton look is not Rosa Parks, but one of Henry’s neighbors,” they told Vulture. “The faces seen on this look, as well as on previous LV garments featuring Taylor’s artwork, are all drawn from his personal life – family members, friends, and neighbors. These figures come directly from Henry’s existing artworks, which he provided to LVMH for Pharrell’s debut collection with Louis Vuitton in 2023. None of the individuals depicted in any of the garments are Rosa Parks or other well-known figures from Black cultural history. They are all people from Henry’s own life.”

The theme at this year’s Met Gala was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” with co-chairs Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, and A$AP Rocky celebrating Black dandyism.

In BTS footage shot by Vogue, Williams helped Lisa prepare for her red carpet arrival and told the pop star that her look on the night was intended to “highlight the taste level and the taste buds of Black people.”
