#Lindsay Lohan Says She “Started Crying” When She Saw Her Son Watching ‘The Parent Trap’

Lindsay Lohan may not like watching her own movies, but admitted she got emotional when she saw her son watching one of her beloved films.

The actress stopped by The Drew Barrymore Show on Thursday, where the host asked her whether she watches the films she had starred in. Drew Barrymore noted that she can’t because it feels “indulgent.”

While Lohan said she doesn’t seek out her movies, she will occasionally have one on in the background. “I mean, if someone wants to watch it and I’m there, I put it on and I’m like cooking in the kitchen or I have to run upstairs or I’m busy doing something else, ’cause it’s hearing my voice that I’m like, ‘Eh,’” she explained.

However, the actress recently caught her 8-month-old son Luai watching 1998’s The Parent Trap, where she played twins Hallie Parker and Annie James as a child, which instantly made her emotional.

“I just wrapped a movie four days ago and I came home from work and my son was getting ready for dinner time,” she recalled. “And I opened the door and he was watching The Parent Trap. It was just on the TV.”

Lohan continued, “And I started crying because I’m like, he doesn’t even know that’s Mommy yet. I was like, do I turn it off or do I just… he was kind of just staring. Because maybe, my voice is still similar to how it was then. So I was like, maybe he knows, like a little bit that it’s me because it sounds like me. But it was a really magical moment. I took tons of pictures of it.”

The actress starred alongside Dennis Quaid, Natasha Richardson, Elaine Hendrix and Lisa Ann Walter in the Nancy Meyers-directed film.

This week, Lohan also chatted with Bustle in a wide-ranging interview, including becoming a first-time mother last year after welcoming her son with husband Bader Shammas.

“It’s a whole new, different kind of love you thought you could never experience,” she told the magazine.

Elsewhere in the interview, Lohan opened up about the impact child stardom had on her. The actress starred in several movies as a teen within a short time period in the early 2000s, including Freaky FridayConfessions of a Teenage Drama Queen and Mean Girls. But between her busy work schedule and the pressure of fame, Lohan found herself battling a drug and alcohol addiction. She later entered rehab, and has previously opened up about overcoming her addiction.

“I feel like some of [my work] got overshadowed by paparazzi and all that kind of stuff when I was younger, and that’s kind of annoying. I wish that part didn’t happen,” Lohan told Bustle. “I feel like that kind of took on a life of its own. So that’s why I wanted to disappear. I was like, ‘Unless there’s no story here, they’re not going to focus on just my work.’”

While some of her other celebrity peers have reclaimed their own stories in memoirs and documentaries, Lohan said she feels like she’s not ready to do that just yet.

“I congratulate all the people that [have done that]. I think it’s good that they do what they want to take their power back,” Lohan said. “When I’m ready and I accomplish all of the things I want to accomplish, then I’ll maybe consider doing it. But my story isn’t finished yet, so I’m not in a rush to share my side of it.”
