#LI woman pleads guilty to trying to hire hitmen to kill ex’s mom

A Long Island woman pleaded guilty Thursday to conspiring to hire hitmen to snuff out her ex-husband’s mom in a bizarre plot to reconcile with him, officials said.

Elsy Rodriguez-Garcia, 25, of Huntington Station, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree conspiracy in exchange for a promised sentence of two to six years in prison, according to prosecutors.

“This is a shocking and disturbing case,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Timothy Sini. “The defendant’s intentions were very clear that she wanted this person murdered, and she was ready and willing to pay for it.”

It wasn’t just her mother-in-law she wanted knocked off. Her husband’s then 5-year-old daughter from a prior relationship was her other target, according to prosecutors.

She was originally charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree conspiracy for which she faced up to life behind bars.

Prosecutors said that Rodriguez-Garcia, who shares a son with her ex, was jealous of all the time he was spending with his mom and daughter and hoped that getting rid of them would drive him back into her arms.

In July 2019, Rodriguez-Garcia contacted a co-conspirator via WhatsApp and allegedly asked that person to hire hitmen to execute the grandmother and little girl while on a visit to Ecuador. She wanted the double murder to look like a botched robbery, officials said.

The cold-blooded mom allegedly supplied a kindergarten graduation photo of her stepdaughter to help the hitmen identify her and pictures of the residence, where she believed the two were staying, prosecutors charge.

Her ex-husband became aware of the twisted scheme and alerted the Suffolk County Police Department. The DA and cops instructed the co-conspirator to send Rodriguez-Garcia a doctored photo that appeared to show a slain woman and child to prove the hits had been carried out.

After receiving the fake picture, Rodriguez-Garcia agreed to wire $6,000, officials said. She was arrested the next day.

“This plea brings closure to a tragic case for all involved, including my client,” said her lawyer William Ferro in a statement.

The plea and the resultant time she has served for it should be sufficient to satisfy the interests of justice.”

She’s scheduled to be sentenced April 15.
