“#LI high school goes remote after ‘super spreader’ parties”
A Long Island high school is going remote after its students recently attended super spreader parties, which prompted a rise in COVID-19 cases within the community, school officials said.
At least 38 students from Manhasset Secondary School have tested positive after attending parties in the last 10 days, according to a letter from the Manhasset Union Free School District.
As a result, students will attend virtual classes starting Feb. 22 through Feb. 26, and extracurricular activities — including sports — will be suspended also through the end of that week, the school district said.
Officials added that the infected students have been quarantining and many of them were asymptomatic.
“These disconcerting actions by members of our community continue to put our entire school community at risk and cause a heightened sense of fear and anxiety,” the letter says.
“Events like these impact the entire community resulting in potentially serious illness for students, their families, and our faculty and staff. “
