The Issue: Eddie Scarry’s article (“Mess-ter President,” May 13) informs us that the White House “requires reporters to submit quotes from officials that they want to use for approval before story publication.”

A free press is a bedrock of democracy and is enshrined in the First Amendment. Is this not censorship? Why is the Fourth Estate not up in arms about this?

Kudos to Scarry for pointing out the obvious. The cable news outlets pushing the Democratic agenda would rather obsess over House Republicans dumping Rep. Liz Cheney from her leadership post rather than talk about issues like the US inflation rate hitting a 13-year high.

The wheels are indeed falling off the Biden Express Train. Everywhere we look, we see trouble.

The unemployment rate last month went up to 6.1 percent. Look at the border mess, where things continue going from bad to worse. Four months in, and we have nearly 200,000 migrants caught illegally crossing the border just in April alone.

Fuel is also running low due to a ransomware attack on the 5,500-mile Colonial Pipeline that supplies our energy needs from Texas to New Jersey.

President Biden has only been in office for somewhat less than four months, and already he has brought the country back to the future.

He has managed to bring inflation back. Consumer prices jumped 4.2 percent last month, with energy, food and lumber leading the way. This will hurt retirees and the poor the most. Gasoline lines are back, as are high gas prices. This price increase is a direct result of Biden’s energy policies, like canceling the Keystone pipeline and ending oil and gas exploration on federal lands.

The southern border is back out of control, as is the conflict in the Middle East, with no apparent strategy to deal with it.

But let’s look at the bright side: At less there no more mean tweets to deal with.

I fully understand when President Biden misspoke and said: “I’m not supposed to be answering all these questions.”

It’s the same reason his aides kept him sequestered in his basement during the campaign. And it’s the same reason my family never told my mother’s uncle they were having company, for fear he would leave his room in the attic.

There is only so much spinning that can be done by Press Secretary Jen Psaki without adding to the mess all around the administration as gas prices rise, border surges continue, unemployment soars and children are still not fully back in school where they belong.

They were bent on undoing everything Trump, and this is the result.

Biden has been on the wrong side of every major decision since he’s been in politics. And the mainstream media still give him a break on all the bad moves he conducts on a daily basis.

Can you imagine if past presidents said they shouldn’t take questions out of fear of getting in trouble? We now have a shadow government, and every American should be terrified.

We must demand that Biden make himself available for a town-hall meeting where he will have to answer real (not scripted) questions from various persons (not planted shills) without the aid of a TelePrompTer or earpiece. Then we could finally see if he has the mental facilities to at the least put together basic sentences.

This is the leader of the free world?

For much of 2020, Biden hid in his basement, while being portrayed by the liberal media as a moderate, a man of reason who would restore respect to the presidency. If you take a look at his first 100-plus days, what do you find? Biden being tested by America’s enemies like never before.
