The Issue: The city’s plan to give a stipend to men involved in firearm offenses through a mentor program.
I did not think it was physically possible for Mayor de Blasio in his few remaining months in office to top himself in terms of utter lunacy, but he did, with his announcement of paying violent thugs a monthly “stipend” of $1,000 (“Cash 4 Thugs,” Seth Barron, PostOpinion, Aug. 16).
De Blasio is going to pay thugs almost half of what law-abiding citizens earning minimum wage make. That’s a direct slap in the face to all hardworking and law-abiding New Yorkers.
I can only hope that the next mayor is not going to continue this policy of lunacy, or better yet, that the interim governor will throw de Blasio out of office before he so much as hands out a single dime.

On an almost daily basis, it seems The Post is compelled to report on the rampant, depraved lawlessness that occurs in New York City.
The ghastly, violent crimes being perpetrated can be attributed to a feckless, unprincipled and contemptible mayor.
His egregious tenure cannot be terminated fast enough. Combine his uselessness with a woeful criminal-justice system and the cumulative result is utter, perpetual mayhem throughout the city.

If anyone should receive $1,000 a month as a bonus, it’s the rank and file of the NYPD, who have been marginalized by such uncivilized tactics as ending the anti-crime unit.
While de Blasio’s tenure in City Hall cannot end soon enough, he should no longer hold the purse strings.
Hopefully Eric Adams, the lead to replace de Blasio and a former NYPD captain, will upend any such payout scheme for violent offenders and restore the anti-crime unit.

So crime does pay!
What message is de Blasio sending? That taxpayers who are barely making it day-to-day, many working two jobs or just getting by on Social Security, should take up arms, commit some crimes and then get paid $1,000 per month for being thugs?
This is insanity.

The Issue: The Taliban’s murder of an Afghan woman who wasn’t wearing a headscarf outdoors on Tuesday.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid pledged to honor women’s rights — but only within the norms of Islamic law (“Same as the old barbarous boss,” Paul Sperry, Aug. 18). How does that work?
Malala Yousafzai was shot in the head because she defied the norms of Islamic law by championing education for girls. She survived and won a Nobel prize.
Niloofar Rahmani, the first woman to pilot a jet in Afghanistan’s Air Force, now lives in America, where she fled after threats against her in her homeland became unbearable.
The Afghan woman who went outside on Tuesday without wearing a burka was murdered by the Taliban. So much for women’s rights as they exist within Islamic law. The devil is always in the qualifiers.

The Taliban made soothing statements about not victimizing women. So long as they behave like good Muslims and follow Sharia Law, no harm will come to them.
The women and girls of Afghanistan will be locked in this hell because of an inept and incompetent president, who failed at properly planning our transfer of control and anticipating the consequences of a half-assed exit strategy.
