Harley is saved!

On the brink of being shipped back to the Middle East, Harley — a puppy rescued from the battlegrounds of Syria — will now stay in the United States and be reunited with the Air Force combat vet who rescued her.

Lara Trump personally interceded on Harley’s behalf to help iron out the paperwork snafu that was keeping the dog in limbo at JFK Airport and save her from being sent back to almost certain death.

“Honestly, words can’t describe how I feel right now,” said Amjad Kirrish, who has been waiting to be reunited with the dog he raised from a puppy while deployed earlier this year in Syria.

Kirrish spoke with Lara Trump on Thursday morning.

“First off, she thanked me for my service and apologized that something like this would happen to me,” Kirrish told The Post afterward.

“She really took the reins to this, but I think she’s being modest,” Kirrish said of Trump, who is married to Eric Trump, the president’s son.

“She said she was only a spoke in the wheel that turned to make this happen.”

Kirrish added: “Had it not been for The Post getting the word out there, I don’t know what would have happened.”

A jubilant Robert Misseri, co-founder of Paws Of War — the group that brought Harley back to the US — also credited The Post and Lara Trump.

“Harley is going to stay,” Misseri said, describing how he broke the news to Kirrish in the morning.

“He choked up,” Misseri said. “He couldn’t get off the phone fast enough to call his wife.”

Harley — whose rabies vaccination paperwork was flagged at the airport by Customs, and then the CDC — will remain in quarantine at the airport for 28 days, and then be released, Misseri said.

Her care is being paid for by Paws Of War, which works to ship back dogs rescued overseas by service members who, like Kirrish, form deep bonds with the animals during the stress of combat but then have to leave them behind upon redeployment.

Kirrish has been waiting with his wife and their Australian cattle dog, Zoe, in Southern California, where he is an Air National Guard reservist and a full-time firefighter, battling wildfires for the US Forest Service.

“Lara Trump did work behind the scenes,” Misseri confirmed.

“She’s been advocating behind the scenes from day one.”

He added, “It was a collective, bipartisan effort,” with New York members of Congress from both sides of the aisle also lobbying the CDC to let Harley stay.

The mutt had been fully vaccinated by a Jordanian vet prior to Paws Of War shipping her to JFK on Aug. 24, but the paperwork indicating that was missing.

Harley would likely have been euthanized if shipped back to Jordan this week as planned, Misseri said.

“The story of Harley and Kirrish is a perfect example of the power that pets have to transform the lives of our beloved veterans and members of the military,” Trump told The Post through a spokesman.

“So many people are responsible for their upcoming reunion and I was glad to add my voice to the chorus of people who understand the importance that pets can hold for our men and women in uniform.”

The CDC has not responded to repeated requests for clarification on Harley’s situation.
