#L.A. District Attorney’s Office Finds Sean “Diddy” Combs Video “Extremely Disturbing” But Cannot Prosecute

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office shared a statement following the release of a video of Sean “Diddy” Combs allegedly attacking his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, at an L.A. hotel in 2016.

The video, obtained by CNN, was released Friday and saw the music producer run out of a hotel room in a towel, after a woman who appears to be Ventura as she is seen exiting a hotel room and heading for the elevators. Before she can get in one, Combs grabs her by the back of the neck and throws her on the floor, before turning to kick her.

As the video continues, he kicks her again, even though she is not moving, and drags her by the sweatshirt. He walks off but returns and shoves her, later pulling an object from a table and throwing it toward her. Finally, he walks away again.

“We are aware of the video that has been circulating online allegedly depicting Sean Combs assaulting a young woman in Los Angeles,” the D.A.’s office said in a statement released on Friday. “We find the images extremely disturbing and difficult to watch. If the conduct depicted occurred in 2016, unfortunately, we would be unable to charge as the conduct would have occurred beyond the timeline where a crime of assault can be prosecuted.”

The statement continued by noting that no one had yet presented a case related to the attack. Still, the office encouraged anyone who has been a victim or witness to a crime to report it to law enforcement or reach out for support from the Bureau of Victims Services.

Revolt, which was founded by Combs, shared a statement in an Instagram carousel following the release of the video, writing it was “deeply saddened” by the clips circulating of its former chairman, who resigned following a slew of sexual assault and battery accusations against him.

“Even with his recent separation from REVOLT, it is still our duty to address this matter and recognize the direct impact it has on our staff, our audience, and the culture we represent,” the statement read. “REVOLT stands in solidarity with all who have been a victim of abuse and remain committed to uploading the values and integrity our community expects from us.”

It continued, “We vehemently stand against any form of domestic abuse and will always be a fearless advocate for truth and accountability.”

The statement concluded with a slide encouraging Revolt’s followers to reach out to the National Domestic Violence Hotline at (800) 799-7233 if they are experiencing domestic violence or know someone who is.

The release of the video comes six months after Ventura filed a civil lawsuit in New York where she accused Combs of repeatedly raping and physically abusing her throughout their nearly decade-long, on-again and off-again relationship. In the suit — which also named his label, Bad Boy Records, and Sony Music — Ventura said she was “trapped by Mr. Combs in a cycle of abuse, violence and sex trafficking.”

Ventura and Combs settled the case shortly after she filed the lawsuit. In a statement at the time, the music producer said, “We have decided to resolve this matter amicably. I wish Cassie and her family all the best. Love.”
