#Kodansha Releases 1st “ANIMEHON” Anime Short “Ruchika of hedgehog”
Kodansha has launched a new animation project called “ANIMEHON” that adapts several of the publisher’s picture books into anime shorts.
The first 3-minute short, Ruchika of hedgehog, was released on the series’ YouTube channel with English subtitles on May 9, 2024, in both an extended director’s cut and 30-second commercial version. The short partially adapts the first story in the original picture book series.
Masanori Numaguchi directed Ruchika of hedgehog at FANWORKS, based on a story written by Yuko Kanno and illustrated by Yoko Kitami. Yukiko Murayama and Manabu Okada composed the musical score.
Meanwhile, the anime short’s voice cast includes:
- • Minami Shinoda as Ruchika
- • Fukuko Miyukiyama as Sol
- • Kakeru Hota as Narrator
ANIMEHON is described by Kodansha as a project that combines animation and “ehon” (Japanese word for “picture book”), and create animated works that entertain both children and adults. It is pronounced as “ANIEHON.”
