#Killer Mike Teams Up With Damian Marley For Reggae Remix Of ‘Run’

Killer Mike and Damian Marley have paired up to give one of the Southern MC’s recent hits a reggae-infused makeover.

On Thursday (December 14), the 48-year-old rapper dropped a new crossover remix of “Run,” which was originally released as part of his latest solo offering, Michael. Whereas the original cut featured Young Thug as well as an intro by Dave Chappelle, its latest rendition boasts a guest contribution from Jr. Gong.

“Hip Hop and Reggae are both People’s Music,” Mike said about the collaboration. “People’s Music speaks for the salt of the earth, the worker class that toils and constitutes the masses. I am proud that Bob’s son and Denise’s son united the music, the vibes, and the diaspora to make this song for THE PEOPLE. Run To Glory Together! Love and Respect.”

Killer Mike has earned a lot of praise for his latest record since its release this past summer, with the project receiving one of its strongest votes of confidence from Charlamagne Tha God earlier this week.

On the latest episode of The Brilliant Idiots, his podcast with Andrew Schultz, the Hip Hop personality opened up about his pick for Best Rap Album at next year’s Grammy Awards.

“I know Killer Mike is gonna win Rap Album of the Year,” Charlamagne said. “Grammy, Recording Academy: if Killer Mike does not win Rap Album of the Year, something is wrong. If he does not win Rap Album of the Year for Michael, something is wrong.

“He definitely should win something for [Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance nominee] ‘Scientists & Engineers,’ but there’s no better rap album than Killer Mike all year long.”

Killer Mike has received other award nominations this year as well. HipHopDX has shortlisted Michael in the Best Hip Hop Albums of 2023 category for the DX Awards in addition to giving the Run The Jewels MC a nod in the Biggest Hip Hop Comebacks category as well.

“Scientists & Engineers” is also up for Best Hip Hop Song, with André 3000’s performance on that track receiving a nomination for Best Rap Verse.

You can find all of the 2023 DX Awards nominees here. The winners will be announced beginning on December 18.
