Kill la Kill Character Designer SUSHIO Draws Girl Meets Rock! Art in New Collaboration

The UKMK by SHUEISHA GAMES X (formerly Twitter) account has revealed a collaboration between TRIGGER animator SUSHIO (character designer for New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, Kill la Kill, One Piece: Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island) and the Girl meets Rock! (Futsuu no Keionbu) manga from Kuwahali and Tetsuo Ideuchi.

The collab is part of the upcoming Futsuu no Keionbu Houkago Saiko! Pop Up event at Shibuya’s GALLERY X BY PARCO and involves the specially drawn art below. Sushio’s artwork will also be featured on a number of event-exclusive goods. These include a T-shirt, die cut stickers, and a B2 poster.

Futsuu no Keionbu Houkago Saiko! Pop Up will run from May 30 JST to June 16 JST. Its concept is based on the idea of visitors being able to join the manga’s light music club on a trial basis. The experiences offered at the event includes the Doshitan? Hanashi Kikoka? Seishun Shindan Gacha (fortune slip random draw for 500 yen with an acrylic Chihiro Hatono charm) and the Band Member Boshuuban, with more to be revealed later.

Band Member Boshuuban is a band recruitment-themed activity where you write the name of an artist you want to mimic, which will be displayed on a recruitment board. If your pick matches with someone else, a “I want to form a band!” sticker will be pasted, and you will receive a successful formation coaster. If you fail, you’ll get an unsuccessful formation coaster.

There’ll also be a a sticker set gift for visitors and goods like picks and can badges to buy. One of the purchasable items is a music CD-themed set containing four postcards (out of 12 designs) and one “CD-shaped mirror” (out of three designs), which are inserted into a CD case. Visitors can pick the postcard and mirror designs they want.

Girl meets Rock! started its serialization on Shueisha;s Shonen Jump+ in January 2024. Manga Plus describes the manga as:
