Kevin Gates has shared the first offering from his forthcoming third studio LP, Khaza, release date TBA. “Big Lyfe” arrives amid the newfound TikTok virality of his 2013 Juicy J collab “Thinkin’ With My Dick.” It’s his second single of the year, behind January’s “President.” In February 2021, he dropped his most recent multi-track project, Only The Generals Part II, which followed his last official album, 2019’s I’m Him. Shortly after the release of that record, he was banned from visiting all prisons in his home state of Louisiana due to an investigation prompted by a since-deleted photo he posted on Instagram, apparently fanning out dozens of $100 bills at a state facility in St. Gabriel.

The new song stays true to Gates’ signature sound, his dirty-south drawl Auto-Tuned for extra twang over a soulful, speaker-knocking instrumental. It also falls his in line with the religious inclinations of his recent work (see “I got the spirit, I’m in the booth, and it’s all around me right now”).
