Kenneth Petty, the husband of Nicki Minaj, will face one year of home detention after failing to register as a sex offender in California. He was also sentenced to three years of probation on Wednesday and must pay a $55,000 fine, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office and CBS Los Angeles. He was also ordered to pay a $55,000 fine by a Los Angeles judge.

The sentencing of Petty follows a guilty plea he submitted in September 2021. He was required to register as a sex offender in California as part of a separate plea agreement after moving to the state in July 2019 alongside Minaj and their child.

Petty’s name is on the sex offender’s register after he was convicted and served prison time for first-degree attempted rape as a 16-year-old in New York in 1995. In 2021 Petty and Minaj were named in a lawsuit from Jennifer Hough, the woman he attacked, though Minaj was later dropped from the suit. Minaj married Petty in 2018, and Hough has claimed that she has faced threats and intimidation from Minaj’s camp.
