Kendrick Lamar Breaks Enormous Tour Record On First Night

Kendrick Lamar and SZA‘s Grand National tour is already proving to be a huge commercial success as the duo break records.
The tour’s first night saw Kendrick break Eminem‘s previous record of highest-grossing rap concert.
According to Touring Data, the opening night in Minneapolis grossed over $9.1 million from more than 47,000 fans at an average price of $192.70.
This means that Kendrick can now boast that he has the single highest grossing Hip Hop concert of all time, surpassing Eminem’s record from when he played in Melbourne, Australia in 2019.

The concert in Minneapolis was also the most attended gig for both Kendrick and SZA outside of festival performances.
The opening night of the Grand National tour was also notable for some remarks Kendrick appeared to aim at his nemesis, Drake.
Making overt reference to Drizzy’s controversial lawsuit against Universal Music Group which accuses the record giant of defamation over the release and promotion of “Not Like Us,” Kendrick mocked the 6 God for taking their beef to the courtroom.
Before performing the chart-topping diss track, the Compton rap star played a pre-recorded skit where he sits down for a deposition with a lawyer.
The skit starts with the lawyer mentioning February 9, the date Kendrick performed at the Super Bowl, which Drake recently cited in his amended lawsuit against UMG.
In response, Kendrick says: “I don’t keep up with dates.”
Lamar is also asked by the attorney: “Does this ring a bell? Drop, drop, drop, drop,” referencing a line from Drake’s diss track “Family Matters.”
The pgLang MC responds in the clip by smiling before his set resumed and he launched into “Not Like Us.”
Elsewhere during the U.S. Bank Stadium concert, Kendrick Lamar debuted a new verse over “Family Ties,” which he performed sans Baby Keem.
He also made a subtle change to “m.A.A.d. City” by interpolating Anita Baker’s song “Sweet Love,” which he referenced on his GNX opener “wacced out murals.”
Baker reacted to the homage by saying on social media that she was “blown away” by the unexpected shout-out.
