“Kelsea Ballerini Reveals Sad Details Of Morgan Evans Divorce — But He’s Calling Bull S**t!!

Kelsea Ballerini is opening up about her difficult divorce from ex-husband Morgan Evans.

The country crooner isn’t shy about singing songs that tell the tale of her love life, both good and bad. On Wednesday, she used an interview opportunity on a popular podcast to talk about that woe and misery, too. In fact, her words were so strong that Evans himself took to social media to speak out against them hours after they first popped up online. Uh-oh…

As the clock struck midnight on Wednesday, the 29-year-old singer’s new interview on Call Her Daddy hit streaming for fans to consume. The popular podcast and its host, Alex Cooper, had bagged Ballerini for this week’s much-anticipated ep, and the two of them spent a lot of time talking about the singer’s recent split from Evans.

Of course, as Perezcious readers will recall, Kelsea filed for divorce from the 37-year-old singer-songwriter back in August of last year after nearly five years of marriage. But to hear the Peter Pan singer tell it on the podcast, the trouble started long before the duo officially split. In fact, there were warning signs early in their relationship that compatibility was an issue.

Cooper kicked off the difficult convo with a simple question:

“When did you realize the two of you were not on the same page about what marriage looked like?”

From there, Ballerini let loose. She replied:

“Longer than I give myself credit for. A long time. There were separations, there was years of couples therapy. There was like, many a night of sleeping on the couch. This was just a relationship that took work for a long time.”

Ugh.

There was one specific night that really drove that point home for the spurned singer. The Grammy nominee recalled on the podcast how she slept on the couch the night before the CMA Awards one year. Being unable to even share a bed with her husband pushed her to realize something was very wrong — as did his reaction the next day:

“I slept on the couch the night before the CMAs. And I remember I went to rehearsal at the arena and texting him and him being like, ‘I’ll just see you at the carpet.’”

Oof.

It’s not clear which iteration of the CMA Awards Ballerini is referencing. However, her new single Blindsided has lyrics citing her having to sleep on the couch following “a big fight” at some point in her past. That single also directly mentions 2019, which was the year Ballerini performed Homecoming Queen at the very same awards show. So that would seem to narrow it down…

The Miss Me More singer didn’t reveal a ton of details on the podcast about what specifically led to the couple’s fights. However, she did explain how those spats worked to sever whatever close ties they had relatively quickly into their marriage.

Ballerini explained:

“There was just such a sense of disconnection. We hadn’t seen each other, there was a lack of effort to see each other. I was getting resentful because any time we did see each other, I felt like I was carrying that load, and I was tired. I was just tired of showing up in that way all the time and not feeling like I was seen or matched. And then I was also tired from like, traveling all the time and giving so much of myself because that’s what I want to do to honor my career, too. And I think I just felt really depleted and not understood.”

Part of the problem, as Kelsea quickly found out, was family planning. Early in their marriage, Evans wanted children fast so as not to be “an old dad.”

But the country singer wasn’t ready to go that route towards motherhood quite yet:

“I don’t know if I want kids at all or not, but that was something we had talked about early on and that was something that I was changing on, you know, because he was ready. He was like, ‘I don’t want to be an old dad,’ is what he kept saying. And I was like, ‘I’m just not there yet.’”

Slowly, she started to think more about it. As she neared her late 20s, Kelsea began to look into freezing her eggs. One night, she took Evans out to dinner and told him about her plans for research:

“I took him out to dinner and I was like, ‘for my 30th birthday, I want to freeze my eggs,’ and it was not a good day. I think that was when I was like, ‘there’s a fundamental difference here that has happened and that has shifted and … it was like, ‘he wants something out of life and I’m not there.’”

Ouch…

When the divorce talk first came up, Kelsea admitted that it was “really beautiful” and mature — at first. The pair spoke openly to each other and seemed to want to split in an amicable way. Then, without warning, something allegedly changed in Morgan:

“I was just really honest. I was like, ‘I’ve loved what this has brought in my life and I respect you and I respect me and because of that, I can no longer be in this marriage.’ … We cried, we hugged. It was sweet. And then something changed and I haven’t talked to him since.”

Ballerini and Evans tied the knot back in December of 2017, when she was just 24 years old. Now, she recognizes how young she was during their relationship. Optimistically, it sound like she’s found herself again after five years of an ill-fated love:

“I swore I would never get married. I think he loved me more at 23, and I love me more at 29.”

That doesn’t mean she’s above throwing shade, though. The Half Of My Hometown singer agreed when Cooper called the ex-couple’s divorce “nasty.”

And Kelsea even shaded her former man by subtly referencing his own breakup song, Over For You, in critical podcast comments about being left to pick up the pieces:

“As he’s putting out a song about being blindsided, he’s taking half the house that he didn’t pay for. How was I married to this person for this long and I had no idea that that bit of character was tucked within that human being?”

Damn!!!

It would seem Evans already has listened, himself. Just hours after the first teasers for the interview were released on social media, the Australian-born country music artist delivered his tepid take as a comeback to Kelsea’s words.

In an Instagram post published on Tuesday evening, Evans wrote:

“It’s really sad for me to see this person, who I spent so much of my life with, and loved with all my heart, saying things that aren’t reality and that leave out what really happened. She knows I’m not the type of guy to speak on those things publicly.”

Pushing for privacy, he tried to take the high road on the forum by adding:

“If this is what she needs to heal, I hope it helps. All I ask is that if you’re on my pages, please don’t be mean. Don’t be mean to Kelsea, don’t be mean to each other. Life’s too short.”

Uh-huh.

What do y’all make of this divorce drama, tho, Perezcious readers?
