“Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Currently 22th Highest-Grossing Movie in Japan”

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is now the 22th highest-grossing film in Japan, according to Kogyo Tsushin’s all-time ranking. The anime film was listed with a Japanese gross of 12.4 billion yen (US$107.4 million), making it share the 22th spot with the 2017 Beauty and the Beast live-action movie.

As for the weekend ranking (March 5 to March 6), Jujutsu Kaisen 0 finished in third place with 133 million yen ($US1.15 million). Taking the weekend top spot was Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Little Star Wars 2021, a remake of 1985’s Doraemon: Nobita no Little Star Wars

Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Little Star Wars 2021, which is the 41st Doraemon anime movie (discounting the CG Stand By Me films), opened on March 4. It was originally meant to be released on March 5, 2021.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 debuted in Japan on December 24, 2021 and began MX4D, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema screenings on February 5, 2022. Southeast Asian and North American screenings are set to begin this month.

The movie is adapted from Gege Akutami‘s Jujutsu Kaisen 0 manga, which was first serialized in Jump GIGA in 2017 for four volumes under a different title and later published as a single volume manga in November 2018. It is a prequel to Akutami’s main Jujutsu Kaisen series, which began in March 2018 and received an anime adaptation in 2020. Both fall under the Jump Comics label.

VIZ Media describes the story as:

Yuta Okkotsu is a nervous high school student who is suffering from a serious problem—his childhood friend Rika has turned into a Curse and won’t leave him alone. Since Rika is no ordinary Curse, his plight is noticed by Satoru Gojo, a teacher at Jujutsu High, a school where fledgling exorcists learn how to combat Curses. Gojo convinces Yuta to enroll, but can he learn enough in time to confront the Curse that haunts him?

The main staff of the film includes Sunghoo Park as director, Hiroshi Seko as scriptwriter, Tadashi Hiramatsu as character designer, and Yui Umemoto as assistant director. All of them had previously worked on the Jujutsu Kaisen series. MAPPA is the animation production company. Meanwhile, the cast includes Megumi Ogata as Yuuta Okkotsu, Mikako Komatsu as Maki Zenin, Kouki Uchiyama as Toge Inumaki, Tomokazu Seki as Panda, Yuuichi Nakamura as Satoru Gojo, and Takahiro Sakurai as Suguru Geto.
