#Jordan says House will vote again after failing to clinch Speakership: Live updates

In its first round of votes on Tuesday, the House failed to elect a new Speaker, with GOP nominee Jim Jordan (Ohio) coming up short.

The vote was 200 for Jordan, 212 for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries — who got the backing of the full Democratic caucus — and 20 for other members.

Jordan gained some major momentum Monday, picking up endorsements from key players who had initially said they would not vote for him.

But during the vote, over a dozen Republicans voted for other options, including former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.), who withdrew from the Speaker race last week.

The House has gone into recess.
