“Johnny Depp Honored by Fans with Makeshift Pirate Ship Outside Courthouse”

Fans of embattled actor Johnny Depp have been getting creative with their ways of showing support outside of the courthouse in Fairfax, Virginia that has hosted the televised defamation trial. Depp is suing his ex-wife, Aquaman star Amber Heard, over an op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post in 2018 describing herself as a survivor of horrific abuse. He wants $50 million in damages, alleging the op-ed had cost him his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean 6; Heard has counter-sued for $100 million, alleging Depp has defamed her.

The trial has wrapped up all of its testimony and the jurors are currently deliberating. While that decision is incoming, some fans showed support for Depp by parking what appeared to be a pirate ship outside of the courthouse. In actuality, the ship is a flatbed truck that has been outfitted to look like something Jack Sparrow would take to the open seas. Images were captured and shared on Twitter, and you can see some below.

The tribute comes after other fans had brought actual alpacas in pirate hats to the courthouse. This was due to comments Depp had made about feeling betrayed about Disney firing him from his role as Captain Jack Sparrow. That firing left Depp feeling so hurt that if, theoretically, Disney were to come back to him and offer him “$300 million and one million alpacas,” he still couldn’t take the role.

“Captain Jack Sparrow was a character I built from the ground up and was something that I, of course, put a lot of [myself] into the character and also having worked on these films with these people and added much of myself, much of my own re-writing of the dialogue and scenes and jokes,” Depp said in his testimony. “I didn’t quite understand how, after that long relationship and quite a successful relationship certainly for Disney, that suddenly I was guilty until proven innocent.”

Depp added, “My feeling was that these characters should be able to have their proper goodbye, as it were. A franchise can only last for so long and there’s a way to end a franchise like that and I thought that the characters deserved to have their way out, to end the franchise on a very good note. I planned on continuing until it was time to stop.”

Johnny Depp Has Been Rocking Out While Awaiting a Verdict

One way Johnny Depp has been letting off some steam while awaiting a verdict has been to rock out on stage in the UK. The actor surprised fans of Jeff Beck on Beck’s UK tour by coming out on stage to perform multiple songs together. Depp has appeared at two shows of Beck’s and could possibly appear at more in the coming days.

No matter the outcome of the trial, Depp seems to have found vindication in the eyes of fans and many observers of the trial. There are rumors of the actor getting cast in the next Beetlejuice movie, and while it remains to be seen if that is true, the odds are Depp will have a lot more movie roles heading his way after the verdict is reached.
