“John Travolta Action Movie American Metal Acquired by Saban Films”

A new action-thriller flick starring John Travolta is on the way, courtesy of Saban Films. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has picked up the Travolta-led film American Metal for worldwide distribution at the Cannes market. The film also stars Stephen Dorff (Blade), Shiloh Fernandez (Evil Dead), Ashley Benson (Pretty Little Liars), and Kevin Dillon (Entourage).

Nicholas Maggio is the writer and director, marking his feature debut. It is produced by 308 Entertainment’s Corey Large and Bernie Gewissler in association with Bondit Media Capital. The filmmakers are planning a release for 2023 now that the movie has its backing.

American Metal tells the story of a “desperate and struggling family man who robs a pill mill. However, when the theft turns violent, he finds himself hunted by both the police and the Dixieland mafia.” Not much else has been revealed about the plot or exactly which characters the announced cast members will be playing.

John Travolta Will Also Appear in Saban’s Upcoming Film Paradise City

Another upcoming Saban Films release will also feature John Travolta. That movie also features Bruce Willis in one of his final roles before his retirement, reuniting the actors after they’d previously worked together on Pulp Fiction and the Look Who’s Talking films. Directed by Chuck Russell, the movie follows Willis as a bounty hunter on the trail of a Hawaiian criminal kingpin played by Travolta.

“Bruce and I became good friends when we shared 2 of our biggest hits together, Pulp Fiction and Look Who’s Talking,” Travolta posted on Instagram when Willis retired from acting due to his aphasia diagnosis. “Years later he said to me, ‘John, I just want you to know that when something good happens to you, I feel like it’s happening to me.’ That’s how generous a soul he is. I love you Bruce.”

In recent years, Travolta has appeared in films like I Am Wrath, Gotti, The Poison Rose, and The Fanatic. Following his role as Robert Shapiro in The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, Travolta also had a main role in Kevin Hart’s series Die Hart. Of course, fans can remember him from any number of roles he’s previously played throughout his career, from Saturday Night Fever to Wild Hogs to Speed Kills.

Travolta also returned to the Academy Awards in March, marking his comeback to the awards show since 2015. At the event, he reunited with his Pulp Fiction co-stars Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson. The trio had the task of revealing who won Best Actor that night, which was Will Smith for King Richard. Thurman and Travolta even recreated their iconic dance from the film, prompting some jokes from Jackson.

“Some actors stay in character for an entire shoot, and some… well, they just never let it go,” Jackson said. “Pulp Fiction was a masterpiece, but these two think it was all about a dance contest.”
