Apple TV+ have announced details of John Lennon: Murder Without a Trial, a new docuseries looking at the 1980 murder of Lennon by Mark Chapman. Kiefer Sutherland will narrate the three-part series, which promises “exclusive eyewitness interviews and previously unseen crime scene photos” as part of its examination of Lennon’s murder and the subsequent conviction of Chapman.

An Apple TV+ press release notes that the documentary makers were “granted extensive Freedom of Information Act requests from the New York City Police Department, the Board of Parole and the District Attorney’s office” in the making of the series. Interviews with Chapman’s defense lawyers, psychiatrists, detectives, and prosecutors will all feature alongside the testimony of those close to Lennon. John Lennon: Murder Without a Trial does not have a confirmed premiere date at the time of writing.

Lennon was shot and killed outside his home in New York in December 1980. Chapman confessed to the killing and was subsequently sentenced to 20 years to life in prison, where he remains to this day.

On Thursday the remaining members of The Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, announced plans to release “Now and Then,” which they are dubbing “the last Beatles song.” The track will be released on November 2 alongside a short film documenting the making of the song.
