The Boys’ fourth season has many new arrivals, and one of them is Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy, the comic-book show’s parody of Captain America.

While we have seen plenty of images of Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy in the upcoming third season of Prime Video’s The Boys, the actor has been sharing a pair of throwback images that show a much hairier side to the character. While the original images featured Ackles sporting a trim, neat beard, his latest snaps – which are from a year ago – show the former Supernatural star with a much bushier bit of facial hair going on.

Ackles will join cast regulars such as Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, and Erin Moriarty when the show returns on June 3, and his portrayal of Soldier Boy is just one of the new characters that fans cannot wait to see getting down and dirty with The Boys. Although there have been no details revealed around the plot of the third season, the trailer showed just enough to have everyone hyped for the show’s return. Soldier Boy’s inclusion is expected to bring some problems for Starr’s Homelander, considering he is one of the few heroes who equals the unstable Supe in the comics.

The new photos shared by Ackles see him buffed up and showing off his very impressive facial growth. Considering none of the official images of Solider Boy have shown him with quite this much of a lumberjack look, it will be interesting to see the beard is only seen in the early part of the role, or whether it would come later. Judging by Ackles’ admission that the shots were taken a year ago, it would be fair to assume it was used in some of the first shots he filmed for the show.

The Boys Season 4 Could Already Be In Development

While many streaming platforms seem to be strongly considering curbing their excessive spending in the wake of Netflix’s recent subscriber issues and share price drop, there is already speculation that The Boys will not be one of the series that Prime Video wants to see end just yet. With a spin-off series already in production, star Karl Urban suggested recently that he is already preparing to film the fourth season of The Boys at the end of this year, although there has been no official word yet on a new season being given the green light.

Appearing at South by Southwest (SXSW), Urban told Variety, “I’m shooting The Boys through the end of the year.” While this was not a direct confirmation that The Boys will be back for season 4, unless Urban is appearing in the spin-off series, which doesn’t seem likely at this point, then it is as good an indication that more episodes are coming as we are likely to get until an official announcement is made.

Of course, in the world of streaming plans change very quickly and if The Boys doesn’t perform as well as expected this summer, then whatever plans are currently in place for season 4 could be scrapped at the drop of a hat. However, there isn’t really anyone expecting that outcome as The Boys is still one of the biggest shows on Amazon Prime Video and doesn’t seem to be losing its edge anytime soon.
