#Jeff Wilpon: ‘Four or five suitors’ interested in buying Mets

Mets COO Jeff Wilpon said Thursday there are four or five parties interested in buying the team.

“The team will have some kind of transaction, I can’t tell you exactly what it’s going to be and how it’s going to look,” Wilpon told the UJA-Federation of New York, a Jewish philanthropic organization, according to Bleacher Report. “But we’re working toward a transaction and there’s four or five suitors that are out there to do something with and [there’s] a bunch of philanthropic planning and family planning that my dad and my uncle want to do, and that’s totally fine.”

Wilpon didn’t reveal any further details on any potential sale.

“When we have something to truly announce and tell you about, we’ll do that,” he said. “Not going to play the speculation game or get in any competition with Page Six or Variety magazine.”

On Monday, it was reported private equity billionaires Josh Harris and David Blitzer are making a serious run at the Mets. If that turns out to be successful, they would add the baseball team to their sports portfolio that already includes the 76ers and the Devils.

Harris is thought to be worth $5.1 billion, while Blitzer’s wealth is in the neighborhood of $1.3 billion, but that reportedly has not scared off Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez, who still want to be the queen and king of Queens.

Sources close to the power couple told The Post that J-Rod have been aware of the duo’s interest, but remain confident in putting together a competitive bid of their own.
