“JDM Global tours the great outdoors in the “Dizzy” video”

The Go Easy EP drops on June 24.

You might know Josh Mehling from his production work for his buddy, the indie-pop artist Claud (currently signed to Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory Records) or Shelly, his band with Claud, Noa Frances Gutzug, and Clairo. Solo, Mehling records pop music as JDM Global. That name might be slightly tongue-in-cheek – a quick Google search for “JDM Global” reveals a couple of sites selling parts for Japanese cars – but the music is sincere. Like his new song “Dizzy,” out today.

The track pulls a fair amount from peak Madchester, sans acid house: its gloriously funky bassline, balmy pan flute, and Mehling’s stoned delivery help make “Dizzy” a vintage beach rave for discerning listeners. But what really sells it is the music video, a playful and colorful set of visuals reminiscent of Michel Gondry where Mehling treats the world like a toybox, clay rainbows and all. Watch the Owen Summers and Nikki Milan Houston-directed visuals above, and watch out for JDM Global’s EP Go Easy, out June 24.
