Six months behind the original schedule, Seitokai Yakuindomo: The Movie 2, the second anime feature film inspired by Tozen Ujiie's four-panel school comedy manga Seitokai Yakuindomo, was finally released in 26 theaters on January 1, 2021, and won first place in Kogyo Tsushinsha's mini-theater ranking.

The 78-minute film was originally planned to be released in Japan on July 10, 2020, three years after the 60-minute first film Seitokai Yakuindomo: The Movie in July 2017, but had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It seems that fans who were patiently waiting for the release rushed to the theaters on New Year's Day. Due to its small number of theaters, it has not made the overall top 10 list, and its first-weekend gross has not yet been reported.

Meanwhile, the first two episodes of the second season of the TV anime World Trigger have been screened in 13 theaters in Japan since December 25, 2020. It made its No.1 debut in the mini-theater ranking last weekend, then dropped two positions to third in its second weekend.

Even in its 12th weekend, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train earned a strong 678 million yen (about 6.58 million USD) on 425,000 admissions, bringing its total to 34.6 billion yen (335 million USD). It has stayed at No.1 on Japan's weekend box office ranking for the record-breaking 12 weeks.

After making its fourth-place debut, the anime feature film adaptation of Japanese comedian Akihiro Nishino's picture book Entotsu-cho no Poupelle / Poupelle of Chimney Town moved up one spot to third in its second weekend. The 100-minute film has made 870 million yen (8.44 million USD) so far.

Meanwhile, the 23rd Pocket Monster/Pokémon anime feature film, Pocket Monster: Coco / Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle dropped two positions to fourth in its second weekend. The 99-minute film's box office gross has reached 940 million yen (9.12 million USD).

The live-action film adaptation of Kaiu Shirai (story) and Posuka Demizu (art)'s dark fantasy shonen manga Yakusoku no Neverland / The Promised Neverland is still in fifth place, the same as last week. The 118-minute film has made 1.25 billion yen (12 million USD) in three weeks to become the fourth top-grossing live-action film of 2020 based on Japanese manga.
