#Japan Box Office: BELLE Stays at No.1 for Three Consecutive Weeks

In its third weekend, Mamoru Hosoda’s Ryu to Sobakasu no Hime / BELLE earned 365 million yen (3.34 million USD) on 284,000 admissions, which was 30 percent down from its second weekend gross. Still, the film has kept its top spot for three consecutive weeks.

The total box-office gross of the film to date in Japan has reached 3.3 billion yen (30 million USD), already surpassed the total domestic gross of the director’s previous film Mirai, which was released in July 2018 and earned 2.88 billion yen (26.36 million USD).

Coming in second was the Crayon Shin-chan anime franchise’s 29th feature film, Crayon Shin-chan: Shrouded in Mystery! The Flowers of Tenkazu Academy, which made 300 million yen (2.74 million USD) on 270,000 admissions in its first three days, which was 103 percent of that of the previous 28th film Rakuga Kingdom and Almost Four Heroes released in Septemebr 2020. The film was originally set to be released in Japan on April 23, 2021, but was postponed to July 30, 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fate/Grand Order Final Singularity – Grand Temple of Time: Solomon, the latest anime film adaptation of the Fate/Grand Order smartphone game, was released in 100 theaters in Japan on July 31, then made its fifth place debut.

Although it was out of the top 10, the first part of the trilogy anime film project Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway had earned 2,017,561,400 yen (18.46 million USD) on 993,196 admissions in 52 days since its release on June 11. It has already become the second top-grossing film in the Gundam franchise, and there is a possibility to surpass the box office gross of Mobile Suit Gundam: Encounters in Space, the third part of the compilation film series based on the first Mobile Suit Gundam TV series, which earned 2.3 billion yen (20 million USD) in 1982.
