#Jamison Crowder is one free agent who has paid off for Jets

The Jets went on a free-agency spending spree in March 2019 that drew rave reviews at the time, but now does not look so good. Le’Veon Bell is on the trading block. C.J. Mosley has played two games in two years. Anthony Barr reneged before ever signing his contract. The results have not been good.

Except for Jamison Crowder.

The wide receiver signed a three-year, $28.5 million contract and has been the Jets’ best player this year. Crowder has played three games this season and topped 100 yards receiving in each. On a team that has few reliable players, Crowder has been someone the Jets can count on.

It has been that way since the 27-year-old came to New York from the Washington Football Team. He had team highs last year in catches (78), receiving yards (833) and receiving touchdowns (6).

That has carried over into this year with Crowder staying productive outside of two missed games with a hamstring injury.

At 0-5, the rest of the Jets season needs to be about evaluating who should be on the 2021 team when it can start rebuilding. Crowder has one year left on his contract but has no more guaranteed money, so the Jets could walk away from him after this year rather than pay him the $10 million salary he is scheduled to make in 2021. He is one player other teams might be interested in at the Nov. 3 trade deadline.

The Jets should stick with Crowder. He will not only help Sam Darnold out the rest of this season, but whoever the quarterback is next year. The Jets need more reliable players like Crowder, not fewer.
