The children have been emotionally devastated by Sunday’s shooting, which left Blake paralyzed from the waist down, his uncle Justin Blake told TMZ.
The family is seeking a therapist, or a team of therapists, for the boys — and will make a decision in the next few days, Justin told the outlet.
He stressed that any delay will make matters worse for the kids, who have not visited their severely injured dad in the hospital because their family said it would be too traumatic for them, according to TMZ.
Jacob’s parents are the only ones who have seen him in person at the hospital, the outlet reported.
A GoFundMe page created by his mother, Julia Jackson, has so far raised more than $1.7 million of its $2 million goal.
The 29-year-old was shot at least seven times in the back by Kenosha police officer Rusten Sheskey, a seven-year veteran of the force, while trying to arrest him as he tried to get inside his vehicle, in which his sons were sitting in the back, officials said.
Cops had been responding to a call from a woman who said her boyfriend showed up at her house, though he wasn’t supposed to be there. When they moved to arrest Blake, the confrontation began.
At some point, Blake admitted to police that he had a knife, which officers recovered under the driver’s side floorboard of his vehicle, Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul said Wednesday.
All officers involved have been placed on administrative leave.
