#It was torture for Mike Trout to leave wife, newborn behind

Mike Trout is already back with the Los Angeles Angels, but it wasn’t easy for him to leave home.

After missing four games because of the birth of his son, the three-time AL MVP returned to action Tuesday night, leaving behind his wife Jessica and newborn son Beckham Aaron Trout.

“It was really, really hard, leaving him and leaving Jess,” Trout told reporters. “Knowing what she’s going to be going through these next couple months is tough.”

Trout, 28, and his wife welcomed Beckham to the world on July 30. As the couple’s first child, the little guy has the initials B.A.T.

Before the season, Trout was apprehensive about playing amid the coronavirus pandemic, particularly with a baby on the way. MLB has since seen coronavirus outbreaks within the Marlins and Cardinals.

“There’s a lot of things flying through my head,” Trout said. “Obviously, Jessica is worried. With this team, the Angels, we’ve been safe, and I feel safe here. Everybody is being accountable, staying in the hotel room, doing the right thing and making the right choices. Until something happens, I feel like it’s been good so far. It’s definitely scary for baseball, because it only takes one person.”

The biggest issue for Trout, who homered in his first at-bat as a dad in the Angels’ 5-3 win, is testing frequency. Players without symptoms are currently tested every other day.

“If you don’t have testing every day, it’s gonna be tough,” Trout said. “You’re always trying to catch up and trying to catch it. If we get tested Friday and we have to wait two days to get the results back, you don’t know what’s gonna happen in between. You’ve seen it with the Marlins. You’ve seen it with the Cardinals. It spreads fast. The Angels have been a great organization. We’ve held each other accountable. We know what’s at stake. One person can screw this thing up.”
