Guccis have gone Gaga

Comes now “House of Gucci,” a story of murder starring Lady Gaga and Adam Driver.

In 1995 I repeatedly reported on the Gucci murder. I knew the players personally. The real products of the family were lawsuits, fights, hates.

I reported cousin Paolo stiffing divorced wife Jenny. I reported lawsuits over opening the NYC shop. July 1998 and again ’99, years after Patrizia killed off hated ex-husband Maurizio, I reported this ex-high life Mrs. Gucci was then working in the prison laundry. I even quoted Italian newspapers accusing her “of not only doing in her husband but of having similar hobbies in the past.”

The family hated and despised one another. Always threatening, fighting. Distrust and jealousy were palpable. In ’85 I reported “dethroned Aldo Gucci suing Museum Tower.” It was constant wars — suing, divorcing, betraying, screaming until no longer was anyone named Gucci — in terms of birthright — behind the company. The troubled Guccis were the modern de Medicis.

Fine mart

Artist Mark Kostabi just had a major art pilgrimaged. A visit to his Chelsea townhouse where devotees could grab oil paintings off the walls, then dinner at Cafe Fiorello, which between pizzas and pastas hung a dozen of his canvases, then drinks at Park West Gallery for collectors. Somewhere around $500,000 changed hands.

Placing bets

Kyle Rittenhouse might grab a job offer from a Republican in Congress. Florida’s Rep. Matt Gaetz is thinking to ask him to work on Capitol Hill. “He’d make a good congressional intern,” Gaetz said. “We may reach out and see if he’d be interested in additional ways.” Good. Florida could use at least one young person moving in.

More politics. Vegas bookmakers, hesitant in setting the first odds until they see what Trump’s forces do, betting that in 2022 midterms Republicans take back the Senate and House. Also governorships. But in Georgia, if Perdue wins primary over Kemp, they’re picking Abrams for governor by 5 percent. In Texas, Abbott over O’Rourke by 10 percent. About New York they so far don’t know borscht.

No turkey, just talk

In days of yore not everyone had a great homemade turkey feast. Me, when reporting from Kabul, Afghanistan, I had just plain white rice. The then Comm. Bill Bratton never even saw the Thanksgiving Day parade. And France’s great couturiere Givenchy? His drumstick was in Palm Springs.

My next Thanksgiving wish: Camels, the taxicabs of the Sahara, seldom need to pee. For hours they carry their own body water without needing a dromedary loo. Question: Somewhere somehow sometime someplace is there not some geneticist who can manage to intermarry a friendly camel to my small Yorkie? Please??!!

Presenting …

Hunting a quickie little Christmas gift? Forget the last two years eating while standing in front of an open refrigerator door in a kitchen that’s doubled as your office. Hustle your bones over to Shrubsole. They’re pushing a set of four George II candlesticks. Made in London 1756. Engraved with an earl’s coronet, Garter motto and crest. Commissioned for the 8th Earl of Winchilsea. I mean have respect. We’re not talking no McDonald’s plastic packets of ketchup here.

His Earlship was elected to Parliament, member of the House of Lords, Comptroller of the Royal Household, First Lord of the Admiralty and its Lord President and made Knight of the Garter in 1752.

The price I don’t know. Try a half-inch of your cryptobucks.

Beause safety conscious commuters aren’t taking public transportation, because not everyone’s locked into an office, because it’s holiday rush time, traffic is now so bad it’s the first time I was ever overtaken by an abandoned car.

Only in New York, kids, only in New York.
