#Inwood residents make peace after alleged ‘racial profiling’ video

Residents in Inwood made peace with each other following a viral video showing a group of Dominicans chasing away black men they apparently suspected were in the neighborhood to loot.

“We squashed the beef,” a man says in a video posted Wednesday, as he’s surrounded by a group of young black men. “It was a misunderstanding.”

“I want to personally say, I apologize for what happened,” he adds as the men shake hands.

The initial video on Twitter received a flood of comments accusing Dominicans neighborhood of “racially profiling” the black men. The video garnered 1.3 million views before it was taken down.

The confrontation happened during a demonstration designed to protect local businesses, Patch reported.

A rally was held Wednesday calling on blacks and Latinos in the community to unite amid civil unrest in the country following the police-involved death of George Floyd.

“They want to make sure that we fight each other, they want to make sure that we’re divided —we’re not going to do that,” Rep. Adriano Espaillat said at the rally, according to Patch.

Espaillat did not specify who “they” were.

The publication said Dyckman’s Diary, which organized the first demonstration, said the viral video was being used to “incite negativity.”

“We organized and got united against any looters regardless of their origin/race,” the group wrote online. “We must continue to come together as a human race and fight against any injustices and not deviate from what we are really fighting for.”
