#Interview: The God of High School Voice Acting Cast!

The God of High School is in full swing this Summer 2020 anime season. With colorful characters like Jin Mori, Han Daewi, and Yoo Mira, we had the special opportunity to interview the voice actors. (The interview was conducted via email).

Tatsumaru Tachibana, voice of Jin Mori

Your previous experience has primarily been in stage theatre. How has the transition to voice acting been?

I have wanted to be a voice actor since I was a kid. I started doing voice acting when I joined my current agency. I also have a very loud voice, so I moved away from the microphone a little bit during the fight scenes and moved closer to it depending on the scene.

Are there any skills or techniques from stage acting that has helped your voice acting?

My voice got louder and my throat got stronger because I was a stage actor. We had a lot of scenes screamed, but I never felt my throat get sore. There are some things I realized because I became a voice actor, a play is a play no matter where I go.

What was your initial reaction when you were asked to play one of the lead roles for The God of High School?

I was very excited. I even cried tears of joy because I knew that all the hard days I had were for me to meet Mori.

What was the most difficult part of getting into character for Jin Mori?

The other casts and the staff members helped me get into the role faster than I thought I would. I learned a lot and felt a lot through this title. It’s a treasure in my life to have met [The God of High School].

Any moments from the recording sessions that are particularly memorable to you?

It is the last episode. I can’t tell you yet, but Mori, Dawei and Mira are the best.

Any final comments for fans as they watch The God of High School?

You can’t take your eyes off of [this anime] for even a second with it’s best and the strongest heated fights. I want to feel the joys and sorrows of this anime with fans. Thank you for your support, I won’t let you down, so don’t miss it.

Kentaro Kumagai, the voice of Daewi Han

What was your initial reaction when you were approached to voice Daewi Han? Were you familiar with the Korean webcomic?

I was so happy! I’m very excited to be a part of an anime that is loved around the world, and I couldn’t wait to see how I would describe Daewi in my own way.

I started reading the comic after I decided to audition for it. I quickly fell in love with this work.

Any moments from the recording sessions that are particularly memorable to you?

That’s Mr. Tachibana’s playfulness as Mori. I learned a lot from the way he played Mori, using approaches and ideas that I didn’t have. I also enjoyed talking with my seniors I respect, and it was a great learning experience.

How did you get into the character of Han Daewi during the recording session?

While reading the script again, I visualize the images in my mind and ruminate feelings of my character.

Any final comments for fans as they watch The God of High School?

I think it’s a stylish and cool battle with diversified and fascinating characters.

Ayaka Ohashim, the voice of Yoo Mira

What was your initial reaction when you were approached to voice Yoo Mira? Were you familiar with the Korean webcomic?

I was so happy! I felt it was easy to play her part when I auditioned, but I wasn’t sure if I’d end up playing Mira, which was quite a surprise for me!

Any moments from the recording sessions that are particularly memorable to you?

There was often a delicious snack treat in the studio, but I remember it was around the time I started gaining my weight, and I just had to fight with the craving. (laugh)

Any final comments for fans as they watch The God of High School?

The characters all have strong wills and wishes for GOH, the tournament, and the story gets more and more super-dimensional, so [fans will enjoy] every episode which will give them a fresh reaction to enjoy!
