#One Piece Anime To Take A Break Until April 2025

The One Piece TV anime will go on break until April 2025. According to the announcement, this rest period is meant to allow the show to achieve greater quality.

During this period of repose for the current “Egg Head Arc,” a “SPECIAL EDITED VERSION” of One Piece‘s “Fish-Man Island Arc” — featuring tweaks to the drawings and visuals as well as the implementation of Dolby Atmos — will begin airing on October 27 JST (the week after One Piece Fan Letter). Crunchyroll titles this version One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga and says that its episodes will have a month-long exclusivity period in “select regions” before arriving on “other platforms worldwide.”

The opening song for One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga is “We Go! ~Mugiwara no Ichimi ver.~” while the ending song is BE:FIRST‘s “Sailing.”

Additionally, the show’s broadcast slot will be different when it returns next April. More on this will be revealed at Jump Festa 2025.

The Toei Animation-produced One Piece TV anime adaptation premiered in 1999, two years after the start of Eiichiro Oda‘s manga in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in 1997. The “Egg Head Arc” in the anime began in January 2024.

The manga has been collected into 109 tankoubon volumes as of July 2024, and is described by VIZ Media as:

As a child, Monkey D. Luffy was inspired to become a pirate by listening to the tales of the buccaneer “Red-Haired” Shanks. But his life changed when Luffy accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit and gained the power to stretch like rubber…at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, still vowing to become the king of the pirates, Luffy sets out on his adventure…one guy alone in a rowboat, in search of the legendary “One Piece,” said to be the greatest treasure in the world…

The Shueisha-published manga began its run in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1997 and has been collected into 107 tankoubon volumes as of November 2023. The anime series was preceded by a Production I.G-produced OVA released earlier the same year.

The upcoming One Piece Fan Letter is a 25th anniversary project for the TV anime that is inspired by One Piece novel Wagiwara Stories, a 2017 book that collects a series of short stories — originally published in One Piece Magazine — depicting the Straw Hats from the perspective of “regular people” as well as new content. It is directed by Megumi Ishitani (One Piece Episode 957, 982, 1015, OP26) with Keisuke Mori (“Where The Wind Blows” music video) as character designer and Momoka Toyoda (My Happy Marriage co-series composer, One Piece – Episode of East Blue: Luffy and His Four Friends’ Great Adventure assistant director) as screenwriter.
