A third trailer for In/Spectre Season 2 has revealed that the anime sequel will premiere in Japan on January 8 (effectively January 9 at 1:05 AM JST).

Previewed in the trailer are new scenes and the opening theme “Yotogibanashi” by KanoeRana. 

In/Spectre is based on the Kodansha-published supernatural mystery novel series by Kyou Shirodaira, which began in 2011 and has five volumes, including a short story anthology, as of December 2021. The books are currently published under the Kodansha Taiga label.

Kodansha USA describes the novels as:

Both touched by spirits called yokai, Kotoko and Kuro have gained unique superhuman powers. But to gain her powers Kotoko has given up an eye and a leg, and Kuro’s personal life is in shambles. So when Kotoko suggests they team up to deal with renegades from the spirit world, Kuro doesn’t have many other choices, but Kotoko might just have a few ulterior motives …

In/Spectre Season 2 was originally meant to premiere this October. The returning staff from Season 1 include Keiji Gotoh as director and Noboru Takagi as series composer, with Brain’s Base as the animation production studio once again. Kentarou Matsumoto (In/Spectre animation director) is taking over from Takatoshi Honda as character designer and chief animation director. 

Meanwhile, the returning cast includes Akari Kitou as Kotoko, Mamoru Miyano as Kuro, and Mayumi Sako as Rikka Sakuragawa. Aoi Yuuki and Makoto Furukawa are joining for the second season as Yuki-Onna and Masayuki Muroi respectively.

The first season of In/Spectre aired in 2020 with 12 episodes. A manga adaptation by Chashiba Katase, also published by Kodansha, began in 2015.
