#“I just went to my doctor” – Hugh Jackman gets biopsies due to concerns about skin cancer

Hugh Jackman is urging his followers to take good care of their skin while addressing recurring problems of his own.

The X-Men star posted a video of himself on Instagram on Monday demonstrating the value of sunscreen while wearing a bandage on his nose.

“Hey guys, so, I wanted you to hear it from me, just in case someone sees me on the street or whatever. I’ve just had two biopsies done. I just went to my doctor… she just saw little things, could be or could not be a basal cell in her opinion, she doesn’t know,” he revealed.

“I’ll find out in 2 or 3 days and as soon as I know, I’ll let you know,” he assured his followers.

Hugh Jackman, 54, has undergone numerous skin surgeries and has been very open about his prior battles with skin cancer. He revealed on Instagram in 2013 that he had previously had treatment. Further, the actor also said that some days ago his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness asked him to get the mark on his nose checked, claiming, “Boy she was right!”

“However, if I can just take this opportunity to remind you – summer is coming, for those of us here in the Northern Hemisphere, please wear sunscreen. It is just not worth it. No matter how much you want to tan, trust me, trust me, trust me, this is all stuff that happened 25 years ago. It’s coming out now. Put some sunscreen on. You’ll still have an incredible time out there, alright? Please be safe,” he added.

Assuring his supporters that he will inform them of the results of his biopsies as soon as he learns them, Jackman emphasized that basal cell carcinoma is “the least dangerous” of all skin cancers.

“Just to remind you, basal cells in the world of skin cancers are the least dangerous of them all,” Jackman told his fans.

Hugh Jackman wrote in his caption that he intends to continue being attentive in promoting skin cancer awareness. “I know you’ve heard me talk about my basal cell carcinomas before. I’m going to keep talking about them, if need be. And if it reminds even one person to put on sunscreen with a high SPF, then I’m happy.”

Jackman had already undergone at least six removals to cure his basal cell carcinoma. He previously blamed his experience with the illness on growing up in Australia. He also admitted to never wearing sunscreen when he was younger in a 2015 interview with PEOPLE.

Basal cells are the precursors of basal cell carcinoma, a variety of skin cancer. These are a type of cells that regenerate new skin cells as the old ones age. This disease typically appears as a tiny, slightly transparent lump on the skin. However, it can take many different forms.

Long-term sun exposure is believed to be the primary cause of the majority of basal cell carcinomas. The skin on the head and neck is particularly susceptible to this development because of the exposure to sunlight. Using sunscreen and avoiding the sun’s rays may help prevent this type of cancer.
