“‘I Hope They Both Move On'”
Billionaire Elon Musk, whose name came up during the televised trial, is wishing both participants well with their future endeavors.
Ahead of the trial, it had been reported that Musk was expected to testify during the proceedings. That did not end up happening, though it’s not exactly clear why the billionaire didn’t take part. His rumored involvement was likely due to the romantic relationship he’d had with Heard, which is rumored to have begun before she’d divorced Depp. During the trial, Heard’s lawyers highlighted unflattering text messages written by Depp, including one where he referred to Musk as “Mollusk” and spoke about mutilating his genitals over the alleged affair.
While Musk did not testify, he did take a moment to weigh in on the trial on the final day after the lawyers delivered their closing arguments. Taking to Twitter, Musk took a diplomatic approach by wishing both Depp and Heard well with their future endeavors. Responding to a tweet about the trial, the billionaire wrote, “I hope they both move on. At their best, they are each incredible.”
The Celebrity Trial Comes to Its Close, But Who Will Win?
There had also been rumors that James Franco would be testifying at the trial. While the actor also wound up not participating, Johnny Depp’s lawyers presented video footage of Heard inviting Franco up to her penthouse late at night when Depp was not home shortly before their divorce was filed. Franco has never publicly addressed the trial.
Meanwhile, another celebrity did end up testifying via video link. Kate Moss, who’d dated Johnny Depp for years in the 1990s, appeared to clarify an incident that was said to have happened when the two were together. Amber Heard said she once struck Depp in self-defense to prevent him from throwing her sister down the stairs, alleging she’d heard a rumor that Depp had once done that to Moss. Moss testified that the incident in question never happened and that Depp had never pushed her down any stairs.
The jury will need to decide if one of the two celebrities had defamed the other, and, if so, how much money they deserve in damages. No matter the outcome, observers of the trial have already chosen who they believe.
