#Woman dies while hiking in extreme California heat

A 41-year-old woman died after hiking in California during a record-breaking heatwave, authorities said.

The woman was hiking Saturday in the Santa Monica Mountains with a friend when she began to feel ill as temperatures spiked above 110 degrees, CNN reported.

The pair started heading toward their car, but the woman collapsed and the friend called 911, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

Emergency responders performed CPR on the woman to no avail, the outlet reported. She was pronounced dead around 2 p.m. in an area near Calabasas.

Deputy Morgan Arteaga said her death was likely heat-related and “natural causes of some kind,” but said the coroner would determine the official cause of death, the outlet reported.
