“#The Outfield’s Tony Lewis Dead at 62”
The Outfield were best known for their 1985 arena rock single “Your Love.” The track would appear on the band’s debut album Play Deep, which arrived the same year. The London-based band was comprised of Lewis, drummer Alan Jackman, and songwriter/lead guitarist John Spinks. Originally called the Baseball Boys, the group changed their name and signed to CBS Records in 1984 prior to issuing Play Deep, which would go on to achieve triple platinum status, with “Your Love” peaking at No. 6 on the Billboard charts.
Lewis continued recording and playing with the Outfield until John Spinks died in 2014. In 2018, Lewis released his debut solo album titled Out of the Darkness. The songs on the record were written by Lewis and his wife Carol, though Lewis performed all of the instruments on the LP. At the time of his death, Lewis had been working on a new EP slated to arrive in 2021.
