#Lonely Castle in the Mirror Film Gets New, Theme Song-centric Trailer

“Lonely Castle in the Mirror Film Gets New, Theme Song-centric Trailer”

A new full-length trailer for the Lonely Castle in the Mirror film has been released. The new promotional video mostly omits dialogue to offer a clearer preview of the theme song “Merry-Go-Round” by YUURI.

Lonely Castle in the Mirror will premiere in Japan on December 23. It is based on Mizuki Tsujimura‘s Poplar-published novel (titled Kakami no Kojou/The Solitary Castle in the Mirror in the original non-translated version). The novel was first published in 2017. It was later translated into English by Philip Gabriel and released with the Lonely Castle in the Mirror title in 2021.

Penguin Random House describes the book as:

In a tranquil neighbourhood of Tokyo, seven teenagers wake to find their bedroom mirrors are shining.

At a single touch, they are pulled from their lonely lives into to a wondrous castle filled with winding stairways, watchful portraits and twinkling chandeliers. In this new sanctuary, they are confronted with a set of clues leading to a hidden room where one of them will be granted a wish. But there’s a catch: if they don’t leave by five o’clock, they will die.

As time passes, a devastating truth emerges: only those who dare to share their stories will be punished.

Keiichi Hara (Birthday WonderlandMiss Hokusai) is the director of the film adaptation, with other staff including Miho Maruo (Birthday Wonderland) as scriptwriter, Keigo Sasaki (The Millionaire Detective Balance: Unlimited) as character designer and chief animation director, Ilya Kuvshinov (Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 character designer) as visual concept artist and lonely castle designer, and Harumi Fuuki (The Deer King) as music composer. A-1 Pictures is the animation production company.
