#Hoshimachi Suisei Achieves Budokan Dream

hololive VTuber Hoshimachi Suisei is set to perform at the Budokan arena on February 1, 2025 JST.

The first ticket lottery round for the “SuperNova” live concert began on November 14 at 8:30 PM JST.

Besides the Budokan concert, it was announced that Suisei’s third album, Shinsei Mokuroku, will be released on January 22, 2025 JST. The album will include songs like the popular “Bibideba,” “Moonlight,” and the recently unveiled “AWAKE.”

Performing at the Budokan, or Nippon Budokan, has been a long-held goal for the self-described “virtual idol,” who debuted in 2018 as an indie VTuber. Her official hololive profile states, “She puts endless amounts of hard work and energy into her dream of performing at the Budokan one day.”

The indoor arena first opened in 1964 for the purpose of hosting the Olympic Games’ judo tournament. It continues to serve as a venue for budo (martial art) events, but is now known also for its music acts. The first concert held there, a performance by the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra with Leopold Stokowski as conductor, occured in 1965. A year later, the Beatles would perform at the venue.

While it’s not the only noteworthy concert venue in Japan, the Budokan name still carries weight. As Ikura, from the popular J-pop duo YOASOBI, told the BBC in May, “it’s a very famous venue where the top artists from Japan perform.”

The sense of achievement associated with performing at the Budokan is also brought up in media like anime and manga. In an interview with the staff of BanG Dream! 3rd Season, the anime’s series composer and scriptwriter Yuniko Ayana said, “We always wanted Poppin’Party to perform on the Budokan stage. Their growth as a band allowed them to fulfill their dreams.” As another example, mangaka Auri Hirao‘s first long-running serialization is titled If My Favorite Pop Idol Made It to the Budokan, I Would Die.
