Simone’s iconic 1966 single gets a reggae revival produced by Stephen Marley.
Paying homage to cultural icon and activist Nina Simone, Jamaican artist Queen Ifrica shared her own spin on Simone’s haunting 1966 single “Four Women.” Produced by Stephen Marley, the track, originally a somber, piano-led affair later sampled on JAY-Z’s “The Story of OJ,” is given a soulful reggae spin backed by a live band.
“I was able to channel Nina Simone because I am connected to the four women mentioned throughout the song,” explained Queen Ifrica in a press release. “It was very exciting working with people I am familiar with in the form of the band, and young vibrant people such as the directors of the video Extreme Arts. Stephen Marley and his label Ghetto Youths made the process so easy.”
